very strong contract between canal and out of the canal

TRANSPORTATION MAP

Yellow line presents Main Roads
there are only two main road cross Gowanus
-Gowanus Expy
- 9th Street
most roads along the residential area (north east direction)

Blue line presents Bus Routes
few bus routes cross Gowanus, most bus routes are surround Gowanus
these show workers in Gowanus don't use bus a lot
the Gowanus Expy seems like the busiest road for bus and car

Red line presents Subway Route
Red spot presents Subway station
many Subway routes located in north part link to Manhattan
few routes between Gowanus industry and residential area, so passengers can  either go home or work
only one Subway line cross Gowanus

Pink Line presents Bike Route

Pink Spot presents Citibike Kiosk

Bike routes are not restrict in northeast direction, there are also many northwest routes

North part has more routes than south part. Bike routes in South part are almost in residential area

Citibike Kiosk only exist in Downtown Brooklyn and Brooklyn Heights (north part)

From the transportation map, it is easy to find that Gowanus Industrial area is isolated by bus and train

Building Typology Exercise in Class
everyone draw 4 building typologies when you think of Gowanus

-factory and bridge are the most two typologies are drawn
factories with smoke for me it presents pollution, while industry also shows potential of Gowanus

WEEK 2 ECONOMIC INVESTIGATE

The economic map of the Gowanus shows:

-the industry is mainly along the canal, is easy for these factories discharge products.
-lots of  warehouse and automatic stores  surround the industrial buildings. provide cars and tools for factories.
-transportation service main located near the main industrial area.
-lots of vacant building and space are in industrial area, mainly locate in the middle and end of the canal.
-there is only few shopping center and markets in Gowanus. most retail shops are locate in residential area, along the main street (northeast direction).
- lots of restaurants surround industrial area.
- high density residents are surround industrial area, can see many apartments near there.

my mapping was too generall, for my next stage i think i will do some more sepecific research.
